Position Summary
The Americas Commercial Portfolio Manager is responsible for the strategic management, commercialization, and lifecycle oversight of BÜHLMANN’s diagnostic assay portfolio across North and South America. This role serves as the primary regional product expert and business owner for assigned product lines, ensuring alignment between customer needs, market opportunities, commercial objectives, and global product strategies.
Reporting to the Director of Sales Enablement, the Americas Commercial Portfolio Manager acts as a critical liaison between the Americas commercial organization and Global Product Management based in Switzerland. The position collaborates closely with Sales, Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Technical Support, Operations, Supply Chain, R&D, and Global Product Management to drive portfolio growth, optimize product performance, support forecasting activities, and execute successful product launches.
The ideal candidate combines strong diagnostic industry knowledge with strategic product management expertise, commercial acumen, forecasting capabilities, and a passion for enabling sales success.
Essential Responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy & Lifecycle Management
- Manage the assigned diagnostic assay portfolio throughout the product lifecycle, from commercialization through end-of-life planning.
- Portfolio – Clinical Chemistry, including Gastroenterology
- Develop and execute annual regional portfolio strategies aligned with corporate growth objectives and global product roadmaps.
- Monitor product performance, market trends, customer feedback, and competitive activity to identify opportunities for portfolio optimization.
- Serve as the regional subject matter expert for assigned disease states, assays, and diagnostic solutions.
- Develop business cases and recommendations for portfolio investments, product enhancements, and new market opportunities.
Commercialization & Product Launches
- Lead regional commercialization efforts and launch readiness activities for new products and product enhancements.
- Coordinate cross-functional launch teams to ensure successful execution of launch plans.
- Adapt global marketing initiatives, product positioning, and messaging for the Americas market.
- Support development of product value propositions, customer-facing materials, and market adoption strategies.
- Participate in regional and national conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings to support product awareness and growth.
- Lead relationships with clinical chemistry partnerships within the Americas through monthly reviews, training, co-marketing initiatives, and volume growth.
Sales Enablement & Marketing Support
- Partner closely with the Sales Team to identify opportunities, remove barriers to adoption, and drive revenue growth.
- Develop and maintain product training programs and educational materials for sales and customer-facing teams.
- Create and manage marketing collateral, presentations, competitive comparisons, product guides, and other sales enablement tools.
- Provide product expertise during customer engagements, webinars, workshops, and key account discussions.
Forecasting & Demand Planning
- Partner with Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to develop and maintain accurate demand forecasts.
- Analyze sales trends, customer utilization patterns, market dynamics, and pipeline opportunities to improve forecast accuracy.
- Monitor inventory levels, supply risks, and product availability while proactively communicating potential impacts to stakeholders.
- Support Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) activities through data analysis and forecasting recommendations.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with Global Product Management, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Technical Support, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure portfolio success through monthly Product Health Team meetings.
- Represent the voice of the Americas customer and commercial organization in global product discussions.
- Translate customer needs and market requirements into actionable recommendations for product development and portfolio enhancements.
Market Intelligence
- Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of Customer Advisory Boards for assigned disease states and product portfolios, leveraging customer insights to guide portfolio strategy and commercialization efforts.
- Cultivate strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), clinical experts, and industry stakeholders to strengthen market intelligence, support product adoption, and influence future portfolio development.
- Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, emerging technologies, reimbursement changes, and diagnostic market developments.
- Gather and analyze voice-of-customer feedback from customers, key opinion leaders, distributors, and the sales organization.
- Develop actionable insights that inform portfolio strategy, commercialization efforts, and future product development.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biology, Marketing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- 3-5+ years of experience in life sciences, diagnostics, medical devices, healthcare, biotechnology, or related healthcare industries.
- Experience managing a product portfolio, product line, disease state, or commercial offering.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Technical Support, Operations, and Commercial teams.
- Experience supporting product launches, commercialization initiatives, portfolio management activities, and go-to-market strategies.
- Strong analytical and forecasting skills with the ability to interpret business and market data.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical information into customer-focused messaging and sales tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, and business analytics tools.
- Must be based in the United States.
Preferred
- Experience in in vitro diagnostics (IVD), laboratory diagnostics, immunology, gastroenterology, autoimmune disease, or related clinical markets.
- Product management, product marketing, or commercialization experience within the diagnostics industry.
- Experience with demand planning, forecasting, and inventory management.
- MBA or advanced scientific degree.
- Experience working within a global matrix organization.
