BÜHLMANN fCAL® turbo the turbidimetric immunoassay, is a flexible solution to be applied on most clinical chemistry analyzers. The technology implements a further milestone in fecal calprotectin quantification. It offers significant advantages over other competing methods in the market and is supported by publications in the field.

  • Quality: This assay is standardized against the well established BÜHLMANN fCAL® ELISA and the PETIA methodolgy enhances precision and reproducibility.
  • Flexibility: Immunoturbiometric assays can be applied to most clinical chemistry platforms, allows random access workflow which can be directly integrated into the existing laboratory infrastructure.

Combined with the  CALEX®CAP extraction device, the fecal calprotectin workflow is further simplified thus reducing hands on time dramatically.

Simplest Extraction Method in the Market

  • Pre-filled tubes: BÜHLMANN’s CALEX Cap® contains 5ml of stool extraction buffer in hygienic, closed system
  • Efficient Extraction: convenient, reliable sampling of stool using 1:500 dilution
  • Extract Stability:  3 days at RT, 18 months at -20°C

Speed: Short Analysis Time 

  • Analysis time of 10 minutes and TAT including extraction procedure is 30 minutes
  • Large Measuring Range: 20-8000 μg/g

Flexible and Individual Solutions

  • Applicable on most clinical chemistry analyzers

Disadvantages: Competitor A’s Assay 

Poor Standardization

  • Based on recombinant protein
  • Only one study published, no grey zone proposed, high calprotectin levels tend to be underestimated.
  • Results lower than Competitor A’s ELISA and Unstable calibrator (6 hours at room temp)

Laborious extraction procedure

  • No pre-filled extraction devices
  • Extraction method (~45 minutes) requires multiple pipeting and other vortexing steps
  • Large differences in results between manual extraction and device extraction

Prolonged Time to First Result 

  • 3.5 times longer (system occupation): Time to first result is ~75 min (incl. extraction)
  • Limited measuring range: 5-800 µg/g
